    Rodent size

Hey guys, so my BP is turning 3 this May and is currently 1,300 grams. She’s been eating medium sized rats (85-149 g) every 3 weeks. I just fed her the last rat I had and need to buy more.

My previous supplier isn’t shipping rodents because of COVID mailing issues and I’m thinking about ordering from “cold blooded cafe” since I’ve seen it recommended on here.

They have medium rats (85-174 g) and large rats (175-274g). With her current size would you recommend sticking with medium rats or try upping to large rats?

I’m also not looking to get her up to a certain size or anything, just want her to have the right meal size to stay happy and healthy…and don’t know if she’s big enough to try large rats.

I would stick with the medium rats. I've ordered from them before and their rats run very true to size.

Agreed here as well. My girl is 2600 grams, and I only feed her medium rats.

I’d stick with medium rats also. Your BP could most likely eat a large rat but it’s a pretty big meal for her. Just more 💩 to clean later. 😀

    Re: Rodent size

I agree with what's been said, with one potential caveat.

IF she's eating like clockwork, then don't read on . Stick with mediums and all is well with the world and your girl.

However, is she skips meals, as my Shayna did, you might want to try smaller meals a little more often. Shayna is now about 1.9kg, but at about 1.7-1.8kg, when she was an adult, she often skipped meals and fasted all winter.

I went to small rats every two weeks and she eats regularly and no longer refuses unless in shed. She actually gained weight on the small rats. To each his/her own, but for those with BP's who skip a lot, smaller meals more frequently can work better.

She does fast most winters, but not for as long.
