Lighting in tank for aesthetic purposes

I want to put a light over my ball python's tank so that I can watch him move around at night without messing up his day/night cycle. Would a regular red led light be visible to him/would it disturb him? What about a pink light? I would turn it off before I sleep.

I use red or black incandescent bulbs for some of my snakes at night- mine are substantially dimmed* mostly because they put out a lot of heat, rather than for the amount of light- which doesn't appear to bother them- in fact some clearly enjoy the warmth from above. These lights are visible to them, but not all that bright. I'd say go ahead, it's fine- just make sure you connect it to a lamp dimmer (aka "rheostat")- any hardware store has them, not expensive. You can buy a dimmer switch installed in an extension cord- very convenient.

I second the red and black incandescent. They're probably the easiest to find.
I've used 'moonlight' or 'GLOlight" fish LEDs in the past. They're a blue LED that acts as a blacklight. They still are a bit bright so I never point them down at the animals but at an angle so that it still illuminates without being directly at them. If you can find a small strip of customizable LEDs, you can change them to the blue as well and try that. If you can find one that you can dim with a phone app, even better. I haven't tried using red LEDs yet though, so I don't know how that would work.

Here's a whole thread regarding lighting that I did when I was doing lighting for my terrarium quite a few years ago. You can also see what other keepers came up with as well. I believe that there might be some info regarding what spectrum of light BPs can see but not sure so I'll post a link below as well.

I'm personally not a fan of having a light on all night even if it's a black or red light for nocturnal species like BPs because they can see it and I feel like it probably is unnatural and possibly a bother for them, but if you're just using the light to be able to see your BP for a short while at night and turning it off before you go to sleep that sounds fine.
