Question about breeding
Hello all, just have a question for the more experienced breeder. I have a female I been pairing up since October and lately for this last week she's been soaking all day. She hasn't ovulated yet. Is this common for females that are cool seeking?

Re: Question about breeding
Wow! Beautiful reptile and a great looking enclosure. Congrats. If it were me, I would first double check the temperatures all around. Make sure a sensor probe hasn’t been displaced or the temperature hasn’t spiked for some reason. I would triple check her for mites. I would concentrate on checking her head, chin, and all the folds on that area. I would double check her eyes, heat sensing pits and whole body really looking under the scales, the cloacal region and its folds and creases. Again, I would check the tub and the substrate, underneath the lips of the tub and its corners. It certainly could be cool seeking but I would rule out other possibilities also.

Yea checked all that already, replaced the water last night drained it thru a paper towel and checked her. Temps all good hit spot at 89 cool end 80. I've bred before but this is the first female I've had that soaked before ovulation.

That’s great then. Seems like you triple checked everything. I would think I’m in the clear and chalk it up to normal behavior on her part individually.

There's been quite a few anecdotes over the years of some females preferring to soak in rather than wrap around the water bowl prior to an Ovy. Here's to hoping yours is on the right track!
Here's even a thread about it from a while back here:

The only other thing I would keep in mind is to be mindful of her humidity. Yes, some of the bedding is already damp from her having pushed all the water out of the bowl, but I see what looks like a bits of shed skin in the bedding as well? If she's not feeling like it's humid enough, she could just be preparing for a shed and not an ovulation.

Thanks for the link. The piece of shed is pretty old. I've been misting the coco bedding every so often to make sure humidity is up. I've been jusy curious cause my other girl who I started pairing same day has ovulated and is in deep shed now so this girl is lagging behind some

I wouldn't be alarmed. She is probably getting really close to ovy.

Re: Question about breeding
Anyone ever have a female hangout put on the cops side rather than the hot side after ovulation and prelay shed?

Not for any extended period of time. What are your hot side temps at?
