    Weight loss! Am I underfeeding?

My baby has lost a fair amount of weight apparently. I weighed him just now and he weighs 119grams. On the 30th of November he weighed 174 grams. I admit that I didn't pay attention at that time when I weighed him if he just fed or had a poop coming, so I am not sure about the accuracy. But considering he now weighs significantly less I get worried. He looks fine, has gotten bigger amd bigger, is active, has a good appetite.

I think it's my fault because I have been prolonging his feeding intervals. He used to get a mouse 17-20grams every 7 days. For the last month or so he has gotten the same prey item but every 10 days or so. It was because of my busy schedule and I wasn't always home. But I never thought a few days or so would make such an Impact.
Should I feed him every 7 days again? Or does he need bigger mice? He is almost 6 month old.

He doesn't look underweight so I'm guessing it's a combo of not eating enough by a little bit + he was full during the 174g and then empty during the 119g weight. At 6 mos I think 10 days apart is too far to be doing consistently. Once in a while when things get busy isn't the end of the world, but you should do your best to make sure he is eating every 7 days. Also could be the scale was malfunctioning one of the two times perhaps?

Doesn't look underweight to me at all. I think you're again overthinking things when you really don't have enough information. You need to get a few weights at similar times to make a better assessment. Like every two weeks before feeding day, or each day after it goes to the bathroom. I say two weeks but it could be any number as long as it's consistent in timing. I don't weight mine hardly at all. Young ones every few to several months. Big ones every year or so. My big Blood hasn't been weighed in years because of her size. It's nice to do it to see progress but I wouldn't do it all that often and worry about it without reason.

Yes I don't think he's underweight. He looks very healthy and plump but not fat.
Even so I thought that under 150 grams would be extremely little for a BP of almost 6 month. That's why I became worried.

I've never been one to grow my snakes fast and each snake is different. Some are bigger and some are smaller but yours looks very healthy and I don't think you have anything to worry about.

To confirm it get more uniform measurements to put your mind at ease.

Gorgeous BP! Your snake clearly isn’t underweight nor are you underfeeding it. Your BP will reach it’s optimal health and size in due time on any reasonable feeding schedule. If you’re feeding every 7 days your critter might grow a little faster than if you feed it every 10-14 days but either way is fine. I never weigh my snakes or their prey. I just don’t see how it relates to the health of the animal. If anything it seems to cause more worry and confusion rather than providing actual beneficial information. Snakes are pretty simple creatures. If they have adequate heat, hides, food and water they’re usually just fine. If your snake is eating, pooping, and shedding consistently without issues then there’s usually no cause for concern.

Thanks! He is a very curious little guy.
I have seen people talking and writing about how their BP's were over 300 grams by the age of 3 to 4 month so I thought this was kind of the norm.
I also don't want to power feed him.
But when I imagine how he has already grown so much, gotten thicker and longer, I have mad respect for the size he'll probably have once he reaches the 1000gram mark.
