    Fake Plants

If anyone know of a place where I can get large fake plants, it would be greatly appreciated. The ones I'm specifically looking for are the wire ones with silk leaves that usually have an apoxy base. The photo below is of the last surviving one.

All mine have been destroyed over the years and the guy who I used to purchase them from here in Southern Califoria is MIA. Unfortunately, I haven't been to any shows either.

I'm not really inclined to make them myself as I have more than enough going on. Any leads are greatly appreciated! If you make them or know someone who does or see some at a show, please DM me. Greatly appreciated.

Greatly appreciated. I found pretty long ones but stillcwould have to make my own epoxy base.

I'm hoping to find some that are already made for reptiles with the base. If I don't, I might just have to make them myself.

Every now & then I see fake trees* (not talking about Christmas trees, I mean the silk leaf kind) as well as such centerpieces in thrift stores- might be worth checking. People get tired of dusting them & they're too chicken to hose them off, lol. *Just a few days ago there was a 6' tree in the nearby Salvation Army. Not made for reptiles, but a little creativity can fix that easily enough.

Dollar stores sometimes carry fake foliage. Even reuse places like Goodwill could be worth a visit. I got a huge bag of brand new fake foliage from one for $6 (they all still had the original price tags so I wasn't worried they'd have anything harmful on them but I still gave them a good wash).

FYI, a study done a couple years ago showed that most of the 'fake foliage' sold is imported & contaminated with lead dust* & other stuff, so price tags or not, "new" or not, it's a good idea to wash it thoroughly. I would assume that the lead comes from the "pot metal" wire used to stiffen the stems- the study wasn't done with snakes in mind- it had to do with the fake flower centerpieces that people put on tables within reach of children, who often ingest whatever's on their hands when they eat with their hands or suck their thumbs.

Hobby Lobby or Michaels crafts. Just inspect them carefully before buying as many aren't reptile-safe and have designs with enclosed loops of plastic that your snake can get stuck in.

This is why I was hoping to find someone who makes them specifically for reptiles, whether it's a store or an individual. No luck so far.

One other thing with fake plants (and I would not assume that ones made for selling in pet stores are that much "better"- always inspect things for safety) is that when leaves fall off, sometimes a sharp protruding wire is exposed where the leaf was attached, which could hurt your snake. So I'd shake them well to test- & look for such issues.

And don't forget, some have loops large enough for the head but not the rest of the body.
