I would assume that the lead comes from the "pot metal" wire used to stiffen the stems- the study wasn't done with snakes in mind- it had to do with the fake flower centerpieces that people put on tables within reach of children, who often ingest whatever's on their hands when they eat with their hands or suck their thumbs.
Yeah, I wash anything new on principle. Never know what could be on something. I did try to avoid too many pieces with embedded wires for sure and aimed for ones where the stems are pure plastic, but the ones that do have wires are thickly covered in plastic casings.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm really hoping to find someone who makes these plants for reptiles so I don't have to do it because I have bit too much going on right now and projects like this would go on the back burner. It's much easier for me to buy already made ones. So if you find someone at a reptile show, please let me know!!

I have purchased various size and shapes
at PETCO and they have held up very well. Very happy with them thus far.
