    The Lean Season is back!!

My snakes are officially on their own winter wind down. That means the temperatures drop a bit and the food is fewer and farther between. Nobody has refused any meals yet but it won’t be long before a few of them go off food until spring and the ones that do eat year round will only see food every 4-6 weeks for the next few months. This is my favorite time of year to observe the snakes. The boas and bulls hide a lot and all the pythons hang out, curled up, in the open for most of the day. They’re all less much less active than they are in the summer, except for my male bullsnake and my male coastal carpet. Those two will roam their enclosures incessantly during breeding season.

I hear ya. One of my girls goes on her annual winter strike around November and comes back as a ferocious eater around April. First year it happened, it freaked me out. Still offer on a monthly basis just in case. The rest eat just fine.

Re: The Lean Season is back!!

My KSB had his last meal a month ago. At first I thought it was just a bad mouse but when I went and got him a live one which he normally can't resist, he ignored that one, too. And he's been trying to get out. He was pushing on the top of his tank so hard last week that the clips were starting to give. I took care of the problem but it's funny to see him laying on top of his cave with one eye on the lid, and I know he's trying to figure something else out. This is the earliest he's started looking for a lady snake.
