It might depend on what you mean by "hold their color" - do you want one that doesn't get spots? If you want them to hold the lavender, leopard or other darkening genes like blackhead do that really well, and they'll get spots on the lavender only in many cases which I think looks great.

Re: Best banana combo?
That is a great question. Personally, my ideal banana is a banana that looks as much like they do as juveniles as possible. I guess that means a banana that retains the bright yellows, oranges, white, and lavender. I personally like the freckles. I hear you saying that when it comes to combos, most combos have some kind of trade off and it's mostly about picking your tradeoff righr?

I'd see if you could find one with a darkening gene + Enchi + YB and it should stay pretty close besides getting spots. Personally I think Mahogany makes them look stellar, but they are tougher to find and more expensive than other darkening morph Bananas still.

I went to take a peek what is up on MM right now and omg this one is SO gorgeous. Pied would make some killer colors early on, but probably would not hold the oranges well without Enchi or YB.

This is my girl's colors at 2. She didn't hold it, but still a stunner to me with no freckling. I wish they could look as good as they do right out of the egg. I might try to get some YB in her babies, but working on enchi first.

I've been watching MM for adult banana combos to try to get a feel for how they age out. I feel like I've seena few really nice banana hypos and some nice banana hypo pastels. I love how enchi brightens things up but it also seems to simplify the pattern which isn't ideal for me. I've def noticed some nice YB combos too. I also like the cinnamon combos although they lose some of the color,.

Here's an interesting before-and-after with black pastel, possibly specter and YB:
