    New arrival

Just put a deposit down for this beauty pending visit and inspection end of next week. Going to be a long term breeding project for my female albino het pied, so hopefully won’t be to long term for results

You're "brave" to set up such a complex (& yes, lovely!) enclosure for a new snake that should probably be quarantined. I do hope your bravery pays off & he doesn't bring any mites with him, as that won't be fun to clean, much less easy to detect mites within before they run rampant.

It’s a spare viv I’ve had lying around with spare accessories I’ll be inspecting him for mite when I collect. The shop I get from fortunately takes great care not to bring in mites and they always doing preventative measures. Also when my snakes have had mites here in the uk we can buy mites that eat snake mites, they don’t harm the snake in anyway and die off after 4 weeks ish, there’s also a gap between both of those vivs which I will be lining with very gluey tape so nothing can spread around. The viv underneath is just a quarentine viv as well before being moved into reptile room. But in all seriousness I’ll probably just keep him in it as he is such a cutie.

This is the product I use when treating snake mites it’s a predatory mite that only eats snake mites, so they will pick the snake clean of mites and reproduce they then die off once food is no longer available (when all snakemites are dead) had 2 in past come with mites and this has always killed them off before they can spread as they are ferocious eaters. All you do is scatter it around the viv and let them do there thing. Usualy takes a week or 2 then they die off remove everything clean and job done

I've heard of the product (via this forum, & despite being unavailable here in the U.S.) but it would still seem to me that they'd be far more effective in a simpler set-up, since they still have to FIND their prey to be effective & your enclosure has vast hiding places for both mites & their eggs- & then what about the mite eggs left behind? The thing about mites is the sooner you get rid of them, the less chance they have to share diseases with your snake, so I can't see how such a spacious & complex home for the snake wouldn't slow things down? Any that are missed can reproduce exponentially- I like the "natural predator" idea, I'm just not completely sold on how effective they'll be in any kind of set-up.

They are snake mites natural predator, they eat mites at all stages of life cycles, eggs larvae all of it, you scatter it around the viv not just one spot and they will hunt eat everything they find then when food is no longer around they turn cannibal and eat each other. I’ve used it 3 times in a good few years and always resolved the problem. It’s not like you only put in a few of them from the bottle your talking a hell of a lot in each bottle.

I like using it because I can keep them in a nice enclosure I don’t have to use any sort of harsh chemicals or soak it in soapy water etc. It’s a very low stress way to handle it and has worked every time I have used it in the past
