Lost A Jewel, Found A Gem!

If you have followed any of my Morelia posts, you probably were familiar with my Coastal Cross, Jewel. She gave me a wonderful 7 years of life to enjoy but sadly she passed in August. She was beautiful to me and she was of impressive size at 8 feet long and only 8 yers old.

I knew I'd have to fill the void and a cage here. Once again I debated on a Pokigrion Suriname boa from my good buddy here and a Brisbane, locality Coastal Carpet python. My wife and kids loved Jewel, I wanted a snake that would be able to move into a larger enclosure sooner than later and we agreed another Costal was the right choice.

My go to Carpet guy has always been Nick Mutton and after some texting, Nick told me he didn't have any Brissy's available.

My reliable and trusted friend JMCrook wasted no time in pointing me in the direction of Mike Pennell. I give a special thanks to Mike for being very kind and very professional during the process. Mike was concerned about Hurricane Ida and suggested we wait an additional week to make sure the snake got here safe and on time.

    Folks, I bring you GEM!
She is a (04-12-20) 1 year 5 month old Brisbane, Locality Coastal Carpet Python, my favorite of the Morelia along with the Bredli. Mike's Brisbane locales come directly from Paul Harris.

She's a bit of a spitfire but I really like her. She bit everything, my pants, gloves, shirt but luckily my hands were not touched.

She displays really pretty colors under a florescent light.

Mike told me he thought Gem would get "at least as big" as Jewel and likely even larger.

That's it for now, she's going to have to settle in and have a meal before I take her out.

Congratulations on your new Gem! Looks like you'll be having lots of fun with her. (She's saving your hands for when she's actually hungry, bwhahahaha!)

    Thanks all!

Its been a good day here.

    Mike is a class act.

It was the latest reptile delivery I've ever had from FedEX.

But it was worth the wait for sure.

Little Gem is fabulous! I love that she's a bit of a demon - baby snakes who're determined to stand up for themselves always touch my heart. I'm sure that while you'll be subjected to a little bloodshed along the way, she'll settle as she gets more confident with age and realizes that you're not a predator.

I was so sad to hear about Jewel. I didn't post in your thread about her as I've not been active online for several weeks and didn't want to re-awaken an already painful thread. But I think that bringing Gem into your lives is a wonderful way to honor the experiences you had with Jewel. Blessings to Jewel's memory - she was a lucky snake to have such a good home with you. I look forward to Gem updates!

    My goodness those poses.

More and more lately I've been inspired to try my hands at a more cantankerous species/individual someday now that I've cut my teeth on a very placid BP, and your beauteous Gem is no exception.

    Good for you brother!

    A great looking critter.

I had a feeding boo-boo with a little suri the other day and I'm so pissed I didn't take a pic. The little guy grabbed the end of my finger and constricted the rest of my finger! He was persistent too...the little crap made me uncoil him tail first. Undaunted after that affair, the little monster took the mouse right after I set him down. -you gotta like a little guy with spirit...looks like that one has it.
