Dwarf Retics...........

I have been looking around the different breeders' sights...and have taken notice of dwarf retics. Does anyone around here know anything about them...how big? temperment? anything? Most of the websights don't have a whole lot of information. They sure are good looking animals.

BClark: I think the Jampeas average under 10' . I hear people saying they get big but it hasn't been my experience. I do have one that is over 10', though. I've had her for 10 years now and I feed her like I feed Fluffy!

I LOVE dwarf retics.. will have some someday.

There are several different types.

The Jampea dwarfs are bigger 'dwarfs' they can get up to 15' for females.. males smaller.

Super dwarfs are much smaller, and can breed when they're smaller than a big ball python! I believe 6-8' is normal for them. They are long and skinny, so they don't even look 6'.

There are crosses called superjamps.. I'm not sure on the size for them.

Jampeas usually have silver eyes, and the super dwarfs have orange usually.. at least that is what I have noticed.

I know of tame ones of each type.

Do you think that Superdwarfs can be considered an intermidiate snake like a burm instead of a expert snake like a normal Retic.

I've hit the retic.org website and sent email to Alex there. They're breeding some, but according to him, will probably be keeping most if not all of the SuperDwarfs.


If and when he has any for sale, I'm going to nab one. Also on his site is a write-up (article?paper?) of the age/size comparisons of 3 snakes, one Jamps and two of the SDs. VERY INTERESTING numbers!!!

I'd LOOOOOOOOVE to have a burm but can't afford (don't have room) for something that size, but would be able to house and care for a SD. Right now they're so new that not many are breeding them. I'll wait and keep watching so that I can get one when they're not so rare.

I would consider a superdwarf a much easier snake to care for than a burm. The size difference is huge.. burms are much bigger. I would consider it on a par with keeping blood pythons. Though.. I have never kept dwarf retics, so I could be wrong on their ease of care. I only know they do not get anywhere near the size of a mainland retic.

I guess its a matter of when they get more breeding done and the price goes down. I heard they are around 400 to 700 dollars!
