Lost by buddy Diablo on the 1st

Diablo was a simple corn snake that I got back in middle school. He was 20 years old this year. About 6 months ago I noticed a large mass on him and got an appointment. The vet drained the swelling but found an unidentified mass. Diablo slowly deteriorated after this.
He couldn’t eat full sized mice, but was instead fed fuzzies. Last week he refused to eat and seemed extra lethargic. To be honest I should have made the call to the vet the next day but I held out hope, selfishly.
On Tuesday I came downstairs to work and saw his state. I thought he had passed over night. He hadn’t. I sat with him until I saw no more breaths. Unfortunately he kept coming and going so I called the vet the moment they opened and immediately got him in. He is now buried under a new maple tree up front.
I found a 9 month old rescue ball python on Craigslist that I am tempted to get now. I’ve always wanted a pied ball but I think a rescue would be a lot cooler at the moment. Maybe get a pied in the short future. In the meantime I’ll just remember my old buddy!

I'm sorry. Twenty years is a good run for a snake. You obviously took excellent care of him. Taking in a rescue would be a good way to honor his memory.

So sorry for your loss of Diablo, but 20 years for a corn snake is quite good- you obviously took great care of him- he had a good long life & you can take heart in that. Rest in Peace, Diablo.

Totally your call but I agree that a rescue would be a nice tribute to honor Diablo.

    So sorry for your loss.

20 years is a great run for a corn snake. You obviously gave Diablo a great life. I hope you find solace in that.

It's always hard losing a beloved family member, but you did right by him and that's also something I hope you find peace in.

Thinking of Diablo slithering across the rainbow bridge.
