    New RHP stinks :(

I have been trying to outgas my new RHP for almost a week now. I've been turning it on full blast for a few hours every day when I'm not using the room where the new enclosure is. Although the smell has diminished a lot it's still strong enough that it bothers me. I'm very sensitive to smells and after all this time, being in the same room as the RHP when it is on still gives me a headache! How can I possibly put my BP inside the enclosure when the smell is this bad outside of the enclosure?

How long do I need to continue to outgas the RHP for the smell to be completely gone and is it normal for the smell to be this bad and last this long?

That would sure bother me too, not to mention my snakes- unfortunately, I don't use RHPs so wait for input from those who do. Maybe it matters who you buy them from? I'm assuming there's more than one source.

I’ve had to burn all of mine in regardless of manufacturer. Just let it rip for a full day or so with the cage doors open and a window if the weather permits in your area.

The reason I ask is because I have one VE panel and about a dozen or so Pro Products panels, and my VE was the only one that gave off any noticeable order when it was new.

Perhaps giving everything a wipe down would help. I also had to burn mine in. They smell funny at first.

Yes, it's an 80 Watt VE panel. How long did it take for yours to stop smelling?

Thanks for the tip! I've wiped it down twice with a damp cloth already and I will continue to do that each day while it still smells.

Thanks, I'll try to do this over the weekend. Hope this will all be over with once I burn it for 24 hours

Luvyna.....The smell only lasted like 2 days or so. I set it up and ran it before I put anything in the cage.

Turn it on full power for 24-48 hours, but do it outside if you can. A covered porch works great. The fresh air really helps to offgas chemicals and smells.

Good to know, thanks! That was a smart move to run the RHP before setting up the enclosure, I had cypress mulch and everything set up inside already when I realized there was a smell.

Wish I'd known about this earlier and done this before I assembled the enclosure! Will keep this in mind for the future, for now the best thing I can do is keep a window open.
