    Question Banana Black Pastel???

I just brought this new fellow home this afternoon. It is from a reputable breeder and it was labelled as a Banana Black Pastel. I've been out of this hobby for a number of years but I looked up pictures of a Banana Black Pastel on the WOBP site and they didn't look at all like my snake. The Banana morphs all seem to have a yellow and lavender hint to them. My guy seems all creams and light browns. I'm thinking it looks like it has Lesser in it more than Banana but I could be totally misinformed..

    What do you think?

    Father was Banana Karma HGG
Mother was Pastel Lesser Black Pastel HGG

I do believe your suspicion he has lesser is correct, especially given the lesser odds in that pairing. What does HGG stand for, I'm not familiar with that? Perhaps he is a banana black pastel lesser? Those look pretty close to your boy. I feel like the sire was a male maker for the breeder to say he is banana. I don't know how often if at all non-banana hops chromosomes the way banana does on occasion. I would expect banana black pastel lesser to have slightly brighter yellow and a bit more blushing but the amount of yellow in lessers is so variable I wouldn't think it out of the question for him to be that. I would double check his sex too, because sometimes even the pros have slips on that.

    Re: Banana Black Pastel???

Good question re. the HGG. I didn't know what it stood for either so I called the breeder. Apparently HGG stands for Het Green Ghost which rings a bell now that he's reminded me.
So now my buddy is apparently Banana Black Pastel and a 66% Het Green Ghost. I saw a picture of him with two siblings together who are similar. He (the breeder) pointed out one as a Pastel Lesser, one as a lesser Black Pastel, and mine which he assures me is a Banana Black Pastel.

That is so weird, every banana black pastel or banana + darkening morph of some kind I've ever seen without anything else is always bright yellow/orange almost to the point of being neon, with amazing purple background. I wouldn't expect him to have pastel because he doesn't have much blushing. I wouldn't suspect phantom because that seems to have a much different effect on pattern and doesn't dull the yellow/orange like lesser would. Were both siblings he pointed out female?

I wouldn't expect het green ghost to have the right kind of influence to cause the difference in the yellow, but it might influence the background color to be less purple. Really not sure as that is something I have never worked with and there just aren't a lot of them around to reference.

Here are some "banana black pastel lesser" sold on morph market for an example of why I suspect what I do.

In the end, if it were me I would not count on him having lesser in my breeding plans if the breeder is insistent and has more experience/reputation than I do, but it certainly wouldn't shock me if that popped out in some offspring of his.

I certainly trust the breeder. He's been in the game for 20 years. It's more just me trying to understand why he looks the way he does. I'm always looking to learn more about the genetics of things. I find it fascinating.

Sure am, I live in Scarborough.
While I'm sure he wouldn't list a gene in animal for sale unless he knew it was in there. He may also sell an animal with a possible unlisted gene if he isn't sure its there.

Agreed. Corey is great. I'm sure I'll be getting more from him in the future.

Maybe we can meet up at the CRBE if they have it this year.
