Blind hatchling Baird's Ratsnake
Putting this under general Colubrids as others may have helpful advice!
I've a friend who is a very good keeper who's come into possession of a hatchling Baird's Ratsnake that is blind. It responds well to sound and vibration cues, though. She's wondering if there are any suggestions to help the little guy do well. Thanks for any help!

I love Baird's & have raised them, but never had any blind snakes (only a few that lost vision gradually as they got old), so I don't really have any explicit suggestions. Just overall good care- is it a good feeder? All the Baird's that I've known were very sweet, mellow snakes, just really good pets. They like climbing in branches too, but I'd keep them low for a blind snake.

Thanks! She loves her Ratsnakes and is a great keeper. It's been eating regularly. I suspect that snake is going to be very spoiled. I just wanted to be sure there weren't any specific tips she should be considering.

Well, let us know how it goes, ok? Snakes rely so much on scent & touch, that I don't think vision will be a huge loss, at least not for a pet snake. Might be like with other blind pets though, she might want to keep the "floor-plan" the same, or make minimal changes gradually- that would probably be easier for the snake. It's awesome that this snake wasn't just euthanized for being imperfect- that he found a good home.
