    I did a thing

After many years of keeping only snakes, I just got two baby Mourning Geckos. Why? I'm really charmed by these little souls. They do best in groups. They have social hierarchies. They lash their little tails like cats when they are hunting. They chirp at one another. What's not to love?

They are also tiny. Like teeny tiny. Combine that with the fact that they are lightning-fast and seem to like to dive for any available escape point, and they're kinda terrifying. But I love them anyway.

This duo is only eight weeks old, so they're miniscule. They're currently residing in a 4" wide, 6" tall invertebrate enclosure because anything else is too big for them. And even at 4x6", they are completely lost in this enclosure, lol. I'm keeping them on my desk, where they are close enough that I can hear and enjoy their little chirps.

For anyone unfamiliar with them, these are a parthenogenic species - so this pair of females will lay eggs that hatch into genetically identical clones of themselves. I'll let them develop a little colony and then can hopefully find homes for the rest once the Exo-terra I eventually put them in has a population of 6 or so.

    Wish me luck...

I'm very impressed! They're not only cute (I like geckos & have kept some before) but I can't imagine such tiny ones. Keep us posted, will you? I'm a sucker for tail-lashers too-

    Re: I did a thing

I love these guys! I've considering a colony myself but am trying to raise up some crested geckos to try my hand at breeding, and like you said these guys will lay eggs for you with no issue, so I want to make sure I can deal with a couple of babies before having a ton with mourning geckos lol

Would love to hear about your progress!
