Noticed Strange Markings On Tail This Morning (Photos)

    Hi all,

My boy Kaa Peed and pooped last night and while I was cleaning it out this morning I noticed some new markings on his tail. Normally its just normal shiny white like the rest of his belly (aside from his spurs obviously) so thjese marking are new. I tried wiping at them gently with a wet paper towel and nothing seemed to wipe off or move but there were some veeery small specs on the paper towel that Im guessing is just poop residue.

    1. How long have you had your ball python?

    8 years

    2. How old (or how big) is your snake?

    8 years

    3. Does it eat on a regular schedule?

No, I try to feed every 1-2 weeks but he only eats maybe every other offering, even when offering weekly.

    4. How long since its last meal?

    1 week

    5. What type/size prey is being offered?

    Small rats f/t

    6. How often do you offer food?

    Every 1-2 weeks

    7. What type and size of enclosure does it live in?

AP T8 with a divider down the middle (2nd BP lives on other side of divider)

    8. What are you using as substrate? If it has depth, how deep is it?

    Paper towels

    9. What type of heating do you use?

UTH controlled by Vivbarium Electronics thermostate

    10. Do you use a thermostat to control temperatures?

    Yes^

    11. What do you use to measure/monitor temperatures?

Thermometer, recently broke so need to replace

    12. What are the surface and ambient temperatures in the enclosure?

Around 78-80 ambient, 50-60% humidity. I admittedly forget to mist pretty often (always do when I clean) and my apartment can get pretty dry. The T8 does a great job of holding in humidity for a while but yeah, I have been bad about this. Right now, after cleaning and misting, it's about 80% in there.

    13. What is the average humidity level?

    14. How many and what type of hides does the snake have?

2 Medium PVC Hides from Reptile basics, 1 over UTH, the other on opposite end of tank

    15. Is water readily available at all times?

    Yes

    16. Does the snake live alone or does it share the enclosure with anything else?

Shares a T8 with a divider down the middle

    17. How often and for how long is the snake typically handled?

    Weekly

    18. Does the snake have any medical history (old injuries or illnesses)?

    None

    19. Do you have any other reptiles? Have you brought in any new reptiles recently?

No new reptiles. Have had both BPs for 8-9 years.

    20. Is there anything specific or unique about your situation that we should be aware of?

    N/A
