Picky Eater upping prey - advice

I've had my Royal Python is now 10 months and growing slow and steadily until recently when we were due a prey size upgrade.

I had a batch of rats in the 30 - 40g range that did him fine, at this point he was 420g's. The next size up is 50g. He took one look at the 50g rat and turned around and went back in his warm cave (first time he has blanked food in months). I waited a week and he did the same to the second rat , waited 2 more weeks and he did the same to the third rat.. He is interested but more shy than hungry. At this point he was down to 400gs, not a huge loss but I've managed to get my hands on 2X 30g rats from a friend.

Saturday will be his 5th week since he last ate.

Do I give him a 30g rat so he has something to eat or stick with the 50g rats and hope he is hungry enough not to blank them..

He has his individual quirks but is generally very easy to keep.

    Thanks in advance
