    Almost there

The hangout/critter room/man cave is almost done. Next year I'll add two 6ft or 8ft cages for the olive and scrub and I may upgrade the carpet's enclosures later as well. This is my favorite space to watch sports, movies, and to just kick back and observe the snakes. I can also pull out the futon if I want to take a nap, which I often do.

Nice and roomy. Clean too, no messy cords or anything! I'm awful at cord organizing. I'm jealous of the space you have. What kind of tables do you have your enclosures on there? That's one of my concerns with expansion, I hate spending a bunch of money on a pedestal box just to raise my cages off the floor. Debating just having something built in for a base when I get an eight footer. Definitely need some pictures on those bare walls though!

I made a cart out of three furniture dollys and a couple whitewood boards for my 8’ enclosure. Was just over $60 total and I can wheel it around when I need access to the back of the enclosure stack

Thanks GP. The messy cords are the one thing that drive me crazy but I did the best I could. The tables are an old coffee table and two end tables I had from a previous living room set. They just happened to be a perfect fit for the 4ft enclosures. They’re a little higher than I’d prefer but I can still clean and feed the snakes in the top cages without a step ladder. I thought about getting the AP stands but they’re only 8” high and I thought that might be too low to the ground. I’m gonna find a few cool snake pics to enlarge and put on those walls really soon.

Speaking of art on snake room walls... just got this etching from my friend Ali recently and I’m in love with it. The etching plate it’s printed from she actually cuts by hand with a jeweler’s saw to that shape including the negative spaces

I've done the same thing for years- still using a group of 4 matching solid oak end tables, put together as a base for 2 of my 40 g. tanks to be side by side.

Very nice room you have there Ziggy!

I would not recommend the AP 8” bases. I have them and I still have get on my knees and contort myself to clean the cages or change the water. It’s quite hard on a 65yr old man with physical deficiencies.

However, AP will make you taller ones if you ask. I ordered a taller one for my two 8 foot cages on order but had to put the production on hold until I get some health issues resolved. I think I may cancel the base order and go with coffee tables though, for even more height.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Thanks for the great info Reinz. Wishing you happiness and good health brother. I was thinking about feeding the critters but hadn’t considered the inconvenience of cleaning those lower cages. I’m 55 and I try to take it kinda easy on the back and knees too.
