Juvenile Ball Python 10 gallon tank

Hi guys,

I am new here! I have had my juvenile ball python, Stella, for about a month now! She eats perfectly and is the sweetest thing. I have her in a 10 gallon tank for now. The hot side is at 89-91 and her cold side is 80-82. I use an under tank mat heater and a red light to keep the heat right. Her humidity is around 65-70%. She tends to be active and curious when I get her out. But she also climbs around her tank too, climbing on her branches and fake plants. I have read that ball pythons are supposed to hide all the time. I was just wanting advice because I am a nervous first time mom. She also hasn’t shed yet??

Baby ball pythons are way more active than adults. While she's young she'll explore and climb and as she gets older she'll climb a lot less and hide more but there's always exceptions to the rules. As far as shed goes I wouldn't worry. If she's fed on a weekly schedule with a moderately sized prey item she'll only shed a handful of times a year. A month isn't any reason for concern.

I think she sounds fine. My 3-year old tends to hide most during the day and explores, "looking for food" after lights-out (which is 10pm). The temps are similar to mine, except that I try to keep humidity at about 60%. Not that I think yours is bad, just saying what mine has been successfully at for the last 3 years. I do spray the enclosure often to keep it at that. And, do some extra spraying when I notice she is in blue. I think as long as she's eating and looks happy, you're good. Mine also explored a bit more when she was younger.

Thank yall both so much!! I was worried my enclosure was too small or something crazy!! She is on fuzzies right now, when should i up her prey size and when should I up her to a 30 gallon tank??

First, I hope you have thermostats regulating those heat sources. Unregulated a heat pad can get hot enough to burn your snake, and it could provide an explanation of why she is roaming so much - she is too hot.

Second, when you upgrade do not get a 30-gallon tank, go ahead and order a proper PVC reptile enclosure now because the lead time on them is several months.
