    Cohabbing garters - practical advice/experience?

I've always wanted to cohab 3-4 garters (same sex; I am not interested in breeding) and it's looking like I now have the space to do it. While there seems to be agreement among keepers - and even some good research - indicating that this can work out well as long as husbandry is correct, I'm not finding much information on the practical realities of keeping a group of garters - enclosure size, handling resource distribution (hides, water bowls, basking spots), how to assure equal food access, etc.

I've done searches and gone through threads here and on a couple of message boards dedicated to garters but have only found bits and pieces of info. If anyone here is willing to share their practical experience about what has and hasn't worked when coabbing garters, I'd be grateful. And/or if I've been an idiot and missed a good info source, please point me in the right direction!

Re: Cohabbing garters - practical advice/experience?

Me personally I keep up to 5 in a 40 gallon tank males only females I house in a rack system they tend to get very aggressive during feedings. However at the 3-8 month stage I will keep as many as 10 in a 20 gallon. Males and females. This works for me I'm sure we all have different methods. Best of luck

Thank you! I should have specified that if I do this, I'd like to keep a group of males. What size enclosure would you recommend for 3-4 adult males (just planning ahead; they'll be in smaller enclosures while they grow)?

40 gallon are perfect you can give them a hot side and cool side with plenty of growing room
