First Time Poster To The Forum- Stuck Shed

Hello, so I bought a ball python on june 16th and he had just shed. To this day he still has a few pieces stuck. I have misted him and wiped him down gently but the shed wont come off.

His temps and Humidity are all spot on so no concerns there. Should I wait to see how he looks after his next shed, which will be his first with me?

    any advice?

I’d soak a rough textured towel and wrap the snake up in it then let it slither about inside the towel for as long as you can .. when it’s head pops out simply cover it up again with the excess towel ....

The skin will normally come off onto the towel ..

A good shed starts with proper hydration and environment humidity when the new skin is being formed. So, it may take one or two shed cycles for bad sheds to resolve themselves.

As long as there is no stuck shed on the eyes or tail tip, and there is no ring of shed around the snake's body, then I'd just continue to gently work on it using the method Zincubus described.

The others have given good advice and I agree fully.

However, please forgive me, but we hear "temps and humidity are spot on" quite frequently from newcomers and it turns out they're actually way off sometimes. I'm not saying this is the case here, but could you please tell us about your temps and humidity?

    What are your temps?
    What is your humidity?
How are you measuring temps and humidity?

The more you tell us the better we can help you.

It's all good, it's funny because I've been reading the forums for a while and see what you're talking about when newcomers post.

Anyways, hot side stays at 91-88 degrees with humidity staying from 55-60. He prefers the cool side and that stays at about 82-79 degrees.

I use a zoo med thermometer and humidity probe on the hot side. On the cool side i use a different brand that is digital and is attached to the glass.

He eats like a champ so I'll try some of the suggestions and continue to monitor him until he sheds. Thanks everyone and please, if anyone else wants to give any advice it's greatly appreciated.

Ok all sounds good. You can drop your hot side a touch, but 91 is fine. I personally stay below 90. But like I said 91 is fine.

Thanks for understanding and providing that info. Now we confirm your husbandry is spot on and you should see better sheds within the next one or two.

Keep in mind, like bcr229 said, a shed starts with proper husbandry and hydration as the new skin is forming. So with your husbandry properly dialed you should be all set moving forward. But don't be discouraged if it takes a cycle or two.

Lastly, if you're referring to the analog style dial thermometer/hygrometers they're unfortunately wildly inaccurate, so upgrading that would be a good idea too. Digitals like your other one are much more reliable.

Thanks again for understanding (some people take offense to being second guessed).

You're off to a good start

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We're happy to help.
