Re: Preferd temp
Dums definitely like it cooler than most boids. Nothing to worry about.

Ditto that. My male spends a vast majority of his time in his cool hide.

Maybe he doesn't feel secure in the warm hide.
My balls love the warm side.

Re: Preferd temp
In the beginning, my bp never went into his warm hide. This was when I had the thermometer probe fixed about an inch above the substrate and outside the hide and it read about 90. When I decided to put the probe directly on the substrate and inside the hide, the reading shot up to over 100! No wonder he wouldn't go in there.
With under cage heating, the substrate will always be warmer than the air above it. Also, my hide was trapping heat inside, so was warmer than outside it.
I reset my thermostat, drilled some holes in the top of the warm hide to allow heat to escape and put the thermometer probe directly on the substrate inside the warm hide. I got the reading back down to 90-94 for this position. My bp now uses his warm hide, but still not as much as his cool hide or his middle hide.
If any of the info/advice I've given here about probe placement or anything else is incorrect, please let me know!
