Sheddin’ Problems?

Heyo!

So my newest BP, he’s about 8-ish months at this point, hasn’t shed sense I got him. I’ve got a few BP and have about 5 or so years experience, but by no means am an expert. Anyway, I got him in February 2020 and he has not shed ONCE. He’s a great eater, has never not eaten for me, temps are great (I’ll post below), and overall a happy healthy little dude. But no shedding. I’ve never had a juvenile BP, so I’m not sure their shedding habits but I would assume it would be more often than an adult. I’ve tried looking it up but nothing has been really helpful or really answers my questions. Any tips or help would be great!

Humidity: 75%
Heat: 75-85 (cool) 85-92 (hot)
Ambient: in the 80s - it fluctuates but only by a few degrees
Eating: x1 a week, small rat

At his age, I agree...I would expect him to shed sooner than every 3 months+. I have no crystal ball, but a few things come to mind:

First, are you feeding him the right size prey items at the right intervals? It sounds like it ("small rat weekly), but you might check wts. on this chart below to be sure.

So if that's NOT the issue, what else might make him fail to grow? Answer: parasites sharing his meals. I'd get his stool checked for internal parasites ("worms")- snakes
that eat live prey can get them from their prey, possibly before he came to be your snake. Worth checking & an easy fix if that's the issue, but not something you want to
ignore either, as his nutrition & growth suffers.

Anyone else have any ideas? That's all I can think of att.

The food is not an issue, but I haven’t checked a fecal on him so I’ll probably test it and see if that comes up with anything! I honestly didn’t even think about parasites because visually his weight is great and his weight in a scale is average! But yeah, I’ll get that tested and see what happens from there!

And maybe there's nothing wrong, just a one-off quirk that he's over-due to shed this time. I dunno, but you asked & I agree that it seems odd, so I think it's a good idea
to get his stool checked. If he's sharing food with internal parasites, their weight as they grow would contribute to his, so it's not like he'd necessarily be underweight.

It’ll shed when it needs to shed. My boas are generally every 6-8 weeks but occasionally go twice that long or more without issue

Is he growing? Is his weight increasing? I don't have an answer for you, you have more experience than me. I've been in the hobby for just 3 years. But, seems like if he's eating and growing and acting "normal" that it'd be ok, that he'll just shed when he sheds.

Maybe eating his shed?
