that my snake ate her own shed?
I understand that bp’s typically do not eat their own sheds; however, is it within the realm of possibility?

Yesterday my snakes eyes where in blue so I have her a heavy misting, and now today her eyes are back to normal.


It may be worth mentioning that there is nobody else in my house who would dare get close to my snake, and that my enclosure is under lock and key. In other words, I know for a fact that nobody came and removed the shed skin.

Their eyes go back to "normal" before they shed. Your snake hasn't shed yet. Keep humidity up and you'll see a shed in a few days. It'll probably be accompanied by a poop too.

Ive only seen a ball eat its shed once. Actually have a photo of it on my other phone. But ill bet yours just hasnt shed yet. Give it a day or 3

Agree with all of the above. They clear up cometely and look normal a couple of days before they shed. Make sure to check in both hides in a couple of days. My boy always sheds inside his hide.

Now is when I up my humidity to like 70ish percent until the shed and then go back to normal

I have seen a single recorded case of a BP eating its own shed here on BP.net but it's definitely very uncommon lol. They usually shed within 72 hrs of clearing up but my BP has also shed 5 days after clearing up so they don't always follow the textbook

I can only think of one reason why a snake (BP or otherwise) might eat their shed, & that's if their old skin had the scent of their previous prey on it...which is very likely,
especially when you consider just how sensitive a snake's sense of smell is...they can sniff out just a few molecules left on their skin from that rat they constricted. I think
the reason that most snakes do NOT get confused & consume their sheds is because they can smell themselves in the skin FAR more than last week's rodent. That, and
some snakes even take a dump inside their old sheds, lol.

Sometimes snake just do weird things though: when it comes to sheds, the weirdest thing I've seen was when one of my adult king snakes decided that after she shed it
would be fun to be back inside her old skin? The only way in was thru the open mouth of the shed, & since the shed narrows quite a bit towards the tail, at some point
she got stuck and didn't seem able to get out. Might have been hard to breathe, too? Anyway, I helped her out of it...sheds tear easily but not if you're a snake with
no hands. Silly snek...
