    Cleaning solution recommendations?

    Hello,

I currently own one snake, and I'm looking for suggestions on what to use for deep cleaning.
I'm not really looking to order an industrial sized product, something I can buy a single bottle of or create at home would be ideal.

For my previous cleaning, I used a 50/50 Vinegar & Water solution. I'm under the impression that this is sub-optimal? Any opinions?

    Thank You.

Full cage clean out scenario? Dawn dish soap and water never failed me. Be sure to wipe/rinse all residue afterwards

F10 is a good deep cleaning solution that isn't harmful like most other strong cleaning agents are. Just a small bottle of the super concentrated stuff will last you a long time given that you only need a few drops diluted at a 1:100 ratio to water for it to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

    Re: Cleaning solution recommendations?

I second F10. Once a month I take everything out of the enclosure, wipe off any hard residue, spray F10, wait 10 minutes, then wipe it up.... and the enclosure is ready to go. I like it because you don't need to wipe it up or spray it down with water when done. Fairly harmless to the animal.

I also use F10 products and like them. For a single animal they’re kinda pricey though. Also out of stock at many places currently

I see Chlorhexidine 2% on amazon.

Do you use pure Chlorhexidine, or 2% for your 1:32 ratio?

I use generic chlorhexidine also...check with feed stores & animal supply places...it's much less expensive than F10 & used the same way, very diluted, wipe dry, no rinsing needed. If you only have one or a few snakes, F10 is over-kill, IMO.

I make a mix of vinegar, water and a few drops of dish soap. The soap helps get the tough mess out. I use it to clean any and everything pet related, including cat litterboxes and rat cage cleaning. For anything where I suspect illness, parasites or new animals, the cages get cleaned with bleach solution, air dry, then vinegar mix.

For house cleaning, I use the same mix plus a few drops of peppermint essential oil for a nice smell.

My bottle says 2%. If you have a feed store near you like Boger said, buy it there because is much cheaper.
