Hello all,
I had a couple questions that are frequently asked but obviously, everyone has different setups in different locations. I have my snake racks in my garage. Its a DIY wire rack with a zoo med 150 watt heat cable. This rack was made for the 28qt tubs. My garage gets a little cool at night and can get up to 95 during the day, especially summer time. Recently, its been hitting about 95 degrees but I have my heat cable connected to my Herpstat 2 and the daytime temp is set to 92. During the night, the 92 brings the hotspot in the tub to about 90, which im happy with. The humidity fluctuates about 10-15 degrees during the night. I love the Herpstat because when the temp in the garage hits 92, the heat cable shuts off and it just uses the inside room temp so there is technically no "hot spot". I woke up this morning with the temp at about 78 on the cool side with 87 on hot spot. Humidity was at 56. When I get home from work, the Acurite says its about 92 degrees with about 70 to 75 humidity with the cable shut off. Do you think this is ok? I did solder some more holes in the side of tub and it dropped the humidity down to about 65-70. I am going to be insulating my garage door on my day off because I know the night and day fluctuations are from the garage door. This will allow me to keep the garage at a more constant temp, allowing the snakes to have a hotspot and a cool side during the day, not just a constant 90 degree temp throughout the tub. It should be noted that during the night, I set my space heater to about 80, which has a built in thermostat. Although its not very very accurate , it never goes about 3 degrees higher or lower ten the set temp. The rack is not enclosed either so I use black spray paint to color half of the tub on the outside. If I enclose the rack with a material, it also might help with the temps. I have two fans in the garage circulating the heat. Let me know what you think. Thanks
