    Enclosure Height?

I posted a related question in the Corn Snake section yesterday. What height enclosure do you provide for your BCCs in both their first few years and as adults? I'm asking because I'm trying to decide between the AP T10 with 15 inch height or spending another $144 for the AP T12 with 24 inch height. The idea is that this would be the boa enclosure for a few years, then it becomes the permanent home for a corn snake.

The other options I'm looking at adding are the sliding doors with locks, basking shelf, white LED lights, and having a Pro Products RHP shipped & installed (likely 125 watt). Besides adding a Herpstat, is there anything I'm missing or should do differently here?

Assuming I provide plenty of hides, should I have any concerns placing this in a fairly busy part of the house, like a living room?

I think 15 inches is fine. I don't know that it would be appropriate for a corn snake though. I think they would be able to get out very easily through the space between the sliding glass doors. I can't speak for the drop down doors because I've never used them. The sliding ones.. For sure. They would get out...

A T10 would be fine for a BCC but they do like to climb and perch so they would use all of the space in the T12 if you give them the opportunity.

I would probably do a T8 with drop doors for a corn snake. I do have T8's with the sliding doors and I could see a corn snake trying to squeeze out between them.

    Re: Enclosure Height?

I'd personally recommend the T12 with the extra height. Boas and corn snakes will use all the space you give them -- I have a young Sonoran in a 4'x2'x2' right now, and she enjoys climbing up to her basking shelf 7.5-8" inches under the RHP. If you want to build climbing space for your snakes, it's important to remember that you lose 7" of climbing height when using an RHP (given an 1" think RHP and keeping objects at least 6" away from the lens), so having a taller enclosure gives you more opportunity on this front. Taller enclosures are also easier to reach in and clean, which is another plus.

While I prefer sliding doors with locks, I agree that a corn snake could easily wiggle its way out between them. I don't think you're missing anything else from your list. If the room you plan on putting the enclosure in is busy, do make sure you add plenty of hides and cover. Good luck!

If a corn snake can escape through the sliding glass doors, then do I need to worry about a baby boa doing the same?

Probably. I could see one trying it.

    Re: Enclosure Height?

Both of my boas have been in AP cages with sliding glass doors since they were ~6 months old. Absolutely no way they could fit through the gap where the doors overlap but they both like to cram themselves into the space between the right door and the front panel of the cage.

Which AP cage are they in there in the pic? Is that a 15 or 24 inch height?

    Re: Enclosure Height?

I think the T10 with a shelf is perfect for a boa. The T8 would work but for the extra $30 the T10 is a better value.
