I looooove carpet pythons. They are so incredibly gorgeous. How big is your male and what size enclosure?

He's just under 6'. A friend of mine gave me a 125-gal fish tank that wouldn't hold water any more; it is 72"x18"x24". I made plexiglass tops for it to keep the heat and humidity in. Heat comes from two UTH's plus a DHP so he can either hide or perch and bask, substrate is cypress mulch. He has lots of stuff to use for climbing and perching.

While not arboreal, Womas are EXTREMELY alert snakes. My Woma is the most alert herp I've owned other than a chameleon.

I'd vote male carpet as well. An Irian Jaya or a Darwin will stay pretty small.

You could use a 3x2x1.5’ tank for an IJ or Darwin as long as there is at least one perch.

Yafe, my IJ/Darwin albino hybrid, is in a 4x2x1.5’ with two perches. They really do need at least 1.5’ of height though. If you give them that, a perch or perches, and hides, they will spend much of their time out. However they are nocturnal.

If you can go longer like a 4 or 5x2’ tank or bigger, a bearded dragon would be cool and if you can go 5-6x2’ Blue Tongue Skinks are great too. They are also easier to feed/lower maintenance than a beardie.

Maybe day geckos. I’ve only kept smaller ones and they are not really great for handling. They are active and diurnal.

If you want a small enclosure and something nice to look at, I'd look into the bolder varieties of Dart Frogs, Tree Frogs, or Bumblebee Toads. They're charming, and some can be housed in something like an 18x18x18 enclosure in pairs or small groups.

I have both a Green Tree Python and a male Jungle Carpet Python, adore them, and could look at them all day - but it sounds like you are maybe looking for something that needs less space, so I thought I'd mention these guys since they can really be delightful as display animals.
