Snake Mites
Hi Guys
i held my BP this morning to then find one tiny mite on her body, I killed it straight away, I’m wondering what the best solution to this is now, she’s never had them before and I’m still fairly new to keeping snakes, I’ve disinfected her hide and everything that was in her viv, just need to clean it out now and disinfect that.
shes correctly soaking in water with a washing up liquid concentrate on at the minute with a heat mat and thermostat in it. What’s the best to use now or technique?
thanks in advance

Re: Snake Mites
When my new ball python had mites from the store I took everything out of his tank and scrubbed every inch of the tank, every hiding spot with really hot water and dish soap. Then I baked his hides to make sure any eggs or mites I missed were gone. I placed paper towels in the bottom of the tank then added his hides. Once a day I would soak him in a warm bath with dawn dish soap for about 30 minutes for about a week. I haven’t seen any since. Check his belly scales, around his eyes, under his head and his cloaca at his tail. That seemed to be their favorite hiding places. If you see raised scales there’s a good chance a mite is hiding there. If you bring in new substrate from the store or online freeze it for several days before using to kill any mites or eggs that may have infested the substrate before you got it. By the way, using plain white paper towel in the bottom of the tank will make it easier to spot the mites. Good luck!! They’re aggregating as can be!!

Re: Snake Mites
Everyone deals with mites differently but this is just how i got rid of them. I tried the dawn before buying the sprays and soaks from the pet store. Looks like your on the right track to get them gone. If this isn’t the only snake you have, move the snake with the mites into another room because it’s possible for them to spread to your other snakes.

Re: Snake Mites
I use Vermectin it's $20 at tractor supply. Twice I picked up snakes at an expo and when I got home I found mites. The vermectin worked with one application.

That’s the treatment that safe for snakes right? I know some have all kinds of warnings and I was scared to get the wrong one. I need to remember this.

3.0 Carpet Pythons, 1.1 Bullsnakes
1.0 Olive Python 1.0 Scrub Python,
1.0 BI, 0.1 BCO

One more question am I okay to put her water dish back in now, some I’ve seen say an hour and then some say a couple of days? Which is correct because I don’t want to mess up the whole process I’ve done today

Re: Snake Mites
It’s such a shame you guys can’t get hold of Callingtons Mite Spray over there ..
You just take the water out for 24 hours and a few seconds spray into the viv .
Never fails .
Think you have to be careful with hatchlings and Hognoses
When this is all over ( if I survive) I may look into buying some to order and ship ty them over to you guys —- cost only no profit obviously .. a can last for ages and costs £20 .. p&p maybe be the killer of course
