Broken Hydrometer?

Hi all, I’ve been having the hardest time keeping up my humidity in my 40 gallon bp enclosure. I’ve put foil covering the top of my enclosure and mist heavily 2 or 3 times a day. It goes up to 55 or so a couple minutes after misting but within the hour goes back down to 40 or even 30. I am using an analog humidity gauge right now. I recently thought that maybe it’s the gauge that is the problem. I just put it in my bathroom to test it. I took a 15-minute hot shower and by the end of it the mirror fogged up and the walls were wet, but the gauge only showed around 50% humidity. Is this a normal amount or should I get a new gauge? Maybe could one of you lovely people test with your own working hydrometer if that is the case?

Sounds very inaccurate, which analogs are known to be. I recommend getting a digital hygrometer instead.

I agree, those analog hygrometers are wildly inaccurate. I'd definitely get a digital thermometer/hygrometer combo.

I use Accurite brand for about $10 each on Amazon or at Walmart. There are plenty of models to choose from as well as comparable brands.

Thank y'all! I got a digital hydrometer and it's working like a charm, reading up to 20% higher humidity levels than my analog. Thanks again for the advice!
