Re: Denton line longicauda progression
Both of the girls were hanging out in open tonight after a weather system passed through. I thought it was odd that Kuzco wasn't doing the same... only to find out he took a little more literal approach.

Re: Denton line longicauda progression
Somebody's going through a growth spurt and starting to look his age!
Kuzco's starting to fill out and look a little more mature as of late. He's finally ready for small mice now and will be getting one this weekend. The Reptilinks order with the links and quail arrived yesterday, so I figured I'd thaw a mouse out for him to help scent the link I'll offer to Adelita. All of the snakes here have been losing their minds the past few days and are looking to eat! We've had a few big weather systems blow through with warm spring air, and they're definitely picking up on it.

Re: Denton line longicauda progression
Both of the boas have been super perky since some spring weather moved in. Kuzco perked up when I went to clean his water bowl, so I took him out for some time on the porch and a little hang time outside of his cage. He seemed to enjoy it!
He's definitely starting to get a more mature look to him. He was just about the spitting image of his dad today.

Re: Denton line longicauda progression
I felt my longicauda took forever to colour up and look adult, seem really slow growing too.
Looking fantastic, his blacks really are getting darker

Re: Denton line longicauda progression
Thanks!
Yeah, those black markings of his are becoming nice and inky. It seems like he's staying brighter and less melanistic than most of his siblings, though. I've seen a progression photos of some of his littermates and few look like they're going IMG. They have that full body melanistic wash, kind of like what Jasmine has going on. I had a feeling that Kuzco was going to take more after Oolong (perhaps with more of Jasmine's base scale color), and things certainly seem to be trending that way.
And yeah, the rate at which longicauda mature and grow is positively glacial, even compared to other boas. I've heard a few keepers stateside say that they wait until their females are five or seven years old before they attempt to breed. They definitely move to the beat of their own drum!

Re: Denton line longicauda progression
Wasn't planning on having a snake out at midnight... but Kuzco was crawling around the rim of his tank and asking to be let out, so who was I to say no? He was very happy to be indulged! Lots of happy tongue flicking and exploration. A thunderstorm ended up rolling through about an hour later, so that might of had something to do with it.
It's also time for the snakes to eat, so Kuzco was probably hunting around for food as well. Debating if I want to offer him another mouse or his first quail.

Re: Denton line longicauda progression
Decided to offer Kuzco a day-old quail tonight. Down the hatch it went, no scenting required. Hopefully it sits in his stomach well and the pokey bits (beak and nails) don't cause him any discomfort.

Re: Denton line longicauda progression
I was wondering why Kuzco was hugging his heat this week... turns out he went into shed about three weeks early! I guess a spring growth spurt and bumping up a feeder size will do that to 'ya.
