Thanks! I wish there was a technique I could share, but most of the time the good, sit-pretty photos come from Kuzco being shy (and hunkering down in place) or Adelita being lazy. She's pretty relaxed and deliberate in her movements (when I'm not trying to hold her for a size update photo), so she's easy to photograph. A gut feeling says the Papuan's going to be a bit harder to get good portraits of. As of now, it looks like I may be able to finally test that theory next week.

Thanks! Yeah, I love my bashful little guy - as far as I'm concerned, he's still my dream longi. I actually thought he was going to be in blue again today, lol. Both of the kids are looking a bit dull and have been spending more time on the heat lately, which is typically cue to them building up a shed. It looked like Kuzco's eyes were going a little bit cloudy yesterday, but that didn't pan out (yet).

Sorry, Wrongpython - not trying to hijack the thread at all, but this might be helpful.

Your snakes don't listen and sit still on command? What kind of disciplined owners are you? You know that tough love is for their own good!



Four thoughts here.

First, if your camera, including most phone cameras, has a setting for rapid pics and/or can take more than 2-3 pics a second (many DSLR and mirrorless digital cameras can), just take 10 pics in a few seconds and one is bound to be good . They are digital anyway, just throw out the ones you don't like. It's simple, not like when I was a kid and I had to walk both ways uphill in the snow to develop my own pictures from the raw film.

Secondly, many cameras (and again - I believe many phones) have an "action" setting. You likely, especially in lower light like indoors, get the best/most accurate color, but you should be in better focus. All this feature does is speed up the shutter speed so the picture is exposed to light over shorter period of time. However, because of this, a moving snake will not make (as much of) the blurred effect that you get on a standard setting.

Third, many phones have a setting where it takes a "live" photo. This is similar to burst mode because you get 10 photos in one +/- and can pick the best one. On a DSLR or mirrorless camera you can take short videos at the highest setting and many video editors let you take a picture from the video at relatively high resolution. 4K video allows for very nice photos and you get 24-30 frames/photos a second.

Finally, get a Katie/wife/partner. Katie is great at holding the reptiles so I can take pictures, often in the above ways, and that's so much easier than trying to hold and take pictures, or let them "wander" and take pics. Katie is even better and letting me hold (especially the bigger snakes like Behira - BI) and she takes the pictures.

I thought I heard a crinkly noise behind me an hour or two ago... Kuzco literally went and shed behind my back!

Thanks! Your longis are looking great, too. It is fun watching his melanistic side come through. On top of his black markings intensifying, he's actually starting to develop a melanistic wash, particularly through his back end. That seems to be something pretty common in Denton line longis. I'm not quite sure how and to what degree that will play out with him. It'll be quite interesting to see if he goes from a bright, relatively clean youngster to an almost IMG-like adult. Either way, I'll love him.
