Somebody's been all perky and happy since he got full-spectrum lighting. Seriously -- for the first few days, it was like I had a totally different snake! I haven't seen him this content since he came home. Looking back, I seem to remember Adelita acting the same way when she first got her UV light. "Happy lights" indeed...

The cage cleaning and perch shuffling seems to have been appreciated as well. I shifted his favorite perch up higher, and he definitely seems to approve of this decision!

I thought someone was starting to look and act a little pre-sheddy. One fresh coat of paint, coming up!

The main downside to full spectrum lighting? The rise in ambient heat can eat away at humidity. This means having to add moisture to substrate more often, which leads to naps being disturbed, which leads to cranky in-shed babies:

Hissy fits may continue from within hides for several minutes after you're done.

Somebody's happily working on his first meal of the year. Saved him a hopper-sized "small" mouse to restart his digestive system nice and easy, and things are looking good! An almost two month fast didn't phase this little guy one bit. If anything, he was a little more active than he was previously.

I was actually debating whether I should keep him on hoppers a little longer. He's a slow grower, and still around the borderline of being a true small-mouser. The mental dance of "should I get hoppers or smalls" delayed the kids' food order a bit, but recent developments may render this a non-issue - provided the world doesn't spontaneously combust around 12:00 EST/17:00 GMT tomorrow, of course.

He always stares daggers at me right after a feed. No, buddy, I'm not going to steal your mouse or try to eat you. And no, I'm not going to give you another if the first one left that much of a lump! Glad I ended up adding a bag of hoppers to the Perfect Prey order for the forthcoming new addition, because the small mice I ostensibly ordered for Kuzco are actually seem to be too large for him at the moment. Either their feeders are beefier than normal, or my last supplier's feeders were undersized.

Kuzco will probably be seeing another feed sooner rather than later. He finally relaxed around me for a brief spell the other day -- he's still quite bashful and will puff himself up and flex his muscles a bit when I go to check on him -- and I noticed he's actually a bit skinny. I'm kicking myself for not noticing sooner and breaking his winter fast early, but it's not bad. An extra (fresher) mouse or two and he'll beef right back up!

Kuzco was just so shiny, bright, and soft today. I guess some fresh food and a long nap in your favorite warm humid hide can do that to a longi.

His markings have definitely gotten more saturated and darker over the winter. They're very inky-black now.
