    Python swallows beach towel..... ???

Ok, having a hard time understanding why a snake would do this??

It doesn't look like prey, shouldn't smell like prey, why would it do this?

Maybe it struck at it couldn't get it out of it's mouth and swallowed it??

And if you watch the video that's not a small towel!

Big Thumbs Up for the team that helped the Snake!!!

Why would a snake swallow a towel? It depends on whether it's a pet or a wild snake.

I've heard of a few misguided ppl who think that towels make nice comfy substrate in a snake's cage, & sooner or later, when they feed that snake in their habitat the
towel absorbs a bit of rodent scent. Later when the last meal wears off & the snake is hungry, that towel may seem like the next meal...it's even soft & fuzzy like a rodent.

A wild snake might swallow a towel for much the same reason: the towel had either been stored or used (on the ground) where it absorbed the scent of rodents unseen by the towel owner, & the rest, as they say, is history.

Just because a towel "shouldn't smell like prey" doesn't mean that it doesn't. Snakes can smell things WAY better than we can...just a few molecules, I've read?

It may not even have been rodent. If the towel had been used around any animal, or perhaps the owner dropped some of his own food on it, that could do it.

For sure ^ ^ ^ it could be the scents of other pets or wild creatures (birds etc) that got on the towel. Think of all the creatures that are on a typical beach.

who knows, maybe the towel smelt like chicken? maybe he was just starving and didn't get proper care? I'm just glad they got it out! poor thing probably wasn't thinking about the consequences of trying to eat something that smelt like chicken and wasn't chicken.

Speaking of snakes trying to swallow things they shouldn't, just based on scent & OBVIOUSLY not 'logic' check this out:

I always thought some little kids were pretty adventurous when it comes to trying to eat things they shouldn't, but this mamba wins the "contest" -for cluelessness! He gets partial credit from me though, for finding the head (& nose)!
