Reddest tail
This may sound silly but I'm starting to look into getting a red tail in the next 6 to 9 months. Which Boa has the best red tail? I'm looking for great coloring of the tail. I like the normal look for the rest of the body but would like a local that is known for the best stand out tail. I have a few projects to do before I can build a new enclosure so it'll be a while before I can get one, but it's time to start researching.

The true red tails bcc (now bc) have by far the redest tails
Guyana , Suriname and Peruvian are generally outstanding there are other types of bc like venezuelan, Trinidad which have more burgundy colours but are still outstanding.
The problem alot of people have is that they get pretty big especially females, there are some exceptions tho, the venezuelan bc is a lot smaller than most bc, there are also locality boas with extra deep peaks.

Have you picked up Russo's new book? The More Complete Boa Constrictor. That would be excellent research for you.

You also have to allow for individual differences...genetics matters, so see the "parents" & other offspring if you can.
I understand the obsession with color & appearance, but if that's all you want, get a good painting instead of a living creature...that way, you won't be disappointed.

I understand the genetics matter and that each snake is unique and may change over time. thank you for putting up there for others that might not. But why so negative at the end? Is that really necessary? I'll write it off as your having a bad day cause you are usually very helpful and I enjoy reading your posts most days and thank you for your input.

No, having a great day actually, & I'm sorry, I didn't mean that to sound so negative...it's just that snakes don't all turn out with the brightest color & I worry that people get "pets" for the wrong reason, "appearance" only. And then what if it darkens? Sell it off on Craigslist & go buy a "redder" one? Just my 2 cents anyway, but we have a lot of people reading here that breed to sell...so what happens when they produce snakes that aren't so red (ie. so salable) do they euth. them? I'm someone who enjoys a snake for the personality- the "whole package", I dunno, maybe I'm weird? I generally enjoy your posts as well- peace.

I as well love the whole package and it would never even cross my mind to get rid of a pet because it changes coloring. That would be horrible. That said I would start out looking for what I thought was the prettiest or might become the prettiest in my eyes. I do love the normal pattern/coloring and am not interested in any color morphs so maybe I will get lucky and be able to get one that someone breeding for morphs gets with a wild pattern/color instead. Like I said I'm looking to start researching and so far my snake knowledge is mostly BP's so I'm not even really sure whats out there yet or how they are breed or called. Just like my BP's I will research then build an enclosure (one of my favorite parts), then purchase the snake.
