Disposing of UTH?
Have an old UTH that I need to get rid of, and I’m afraid to just chuck it. How do I properly dispose it? Can’t find anything online. Thank you!

What kind of "old UTH"? Not sure what the hazard would be but then again, I mostly use Flexwatt. I have old ceramic type UTH also, but no hazard there either.
The only kinds I know of are just wiring with resistance to produce heat, & then they're encased in some sort of heat-resistant material (plastic or ceramic).

What's the problem with just throwing it in the trash?

there wasn’t a problem.. I was just making sure it was safe to just throw out. Haven’t discarded one before.

Actually, I wish more people would ask this question. There's many things that don't belong in the trash (ie. landfill) & at least where I live, there is a collection place run by our town's road & bridge dept. for hazardous waste (that could leach into ground water or pose other hazards if thrown out with regular trash): things like batteries, unused chemicals like paint & pesticides, light bulbs, etc. When it comes to anything still usable, like paint, they keep it on shelves for anyone who might want to use it, instead of them just discarding it. Unused medications are collected & destroyed by our police dept. (they have a drive-by drop box).
I recycle everything I can- donating usable clothing & home furnishings to local thrift stores (that benefit various good causes such as the Humane Society shelter & the shelters for battered spouses/families, our hospital, & mentally challenged adults etc.) & I enjoy shopping these stores too...good things are so cheap & it's for good causes on top of that.
Anyway, there's nothing recyclable in an old UTH, nor anything hazardous.

Cords are not expensive, and they do wear out, so I'd only advise that if the UTH failed prematurely at a "young age", and you feel like re-wiring something.
