    heat lamp

Hey guys! my new animal plastics t10 just came in a few days ago, and i’m in the process of setting it up. after some thinking i’m debating just using a heat lamp instead of both the lamp and a uth. for the heat lamp i have either a herpstat one or a 300 watt lamp dimmer. which would be best at regulating the lamp? the temperatures in the room are pretty consistent. also how would i set up the thermostat with the lamp if that’s what i end up doing; can i place the probe on top of the screen right where the lamp sits? just want to make sure i have everything set up as safely as possible; the heat lamp gets quite hot very fast.

    Re: heat lamp

i should add that i can still install the heat mat if it’s necessary, but if i have the temps at a good place with just the lamp do i really need the mat? i’ve heard mixed things about whether or not a heat mat is necessary. i know that the lamp is definetley needed just because the ambient temps in the room are in the low 70s

Drill a hole in the back of the enclosure to feed the probe cord through. Attach to the ceiling and then suspend from the screen below the lamp. Have the end of the probe maybe halfway down the height of the enclosure or so. Set temp to 88-90°. Monitor temps and adjust accordingly

or also.. could i just fish the probe through the part of the wire circle that’s not covered by the lamp? and secure it from the outside? that way i wouldn’t have to drill any holes and the probe would just dangle straight downwards. or would it be bad to have the wire so close to the lamp?

Kinda doubt that screen has an opening 1/4” wide or more. If so then go for it
