My fiance performed a medical first today!!!!! I'm so proud of her!!!

Some of you may know that my fiance, Katie, is a Registered Nurse. She works for a specialty pulmonary practice and is fortunate enough to work for one of the top pulmonologists in the nation. This is a section of an email from her practice....

    "Hello All,

I just had the pleasure of sitting in on a conversation with ***** **** (top representative) of Pulmonx and thought I would share with everyone.

Dr. Aghassi and Katie ********* have been working on the implementation of the Zephyr valve placement procedures being brought into Health Alliance.

The first EVER valve placement was done this morning by Dr. Aghassi and Katie ********* and it was a huge success! She then went on to inform Katie that the husband, and family, was thrilled that his wife was able to have this procedure. He also thanked Katie for working so closely with his family, her patience, dedication, compassion and care and getting this program into the hospital for over 315 days! Young said that Katie has been so wonderful to work with during this past year and that she is very knowledgeable, an amazing and caring nurse and even better person.

I know I speak for everyone when I say congratulations Dr. Aghassi and Katie. This is why we do what we do!"

I'm SSSOOOOOO proud of Katie, she put in a TON of hours to make this procedure happen and was rewarded for her efforts by successfully performing a worlds first. It took 315 days (the patient was counting) of hard work to make it a possibility.

    Congratulations, my love!!!

That's awesome Craig and congratulations Katie on a job well done! Nurses and teachers have always been some of my favorite people and they're even more so after a couple of surgeries the last 2 years. It takes a very special person to care for others when they're ill.

Congrats Craig and Katie. My mother just passed away last month (Dec 15) and I will tell you what.....She was in ICU for a week before she moved on, the nurses there were amazing. So compassionate for the patients under their care and especially my mother. Chokes me up right now typing this cause when mom was not doing well, the nurses (3 of them during her stay) not only took compassionate care of her but also of my father and me during our stay. They were just so comforting! My brother you tell your wife congrats!!!! And I have mad RESPECT for what she does!

Thanks bud!!!! She is no doubt a special person, she puts up with me after all
And you're so right. I definitely couldn't do what she does. And teachers are without a doubt the most under appreciated and most under paid employees in the country in my opinion.

I'm sorry to hear of your mother passing. My best wishes sent your way.
Katie's mom passed just over 9 years ago from cancer. And now she works with cancer patients every day. I don't know how she does it, but she says it makes her a better nurse. She's been the loved one of someone in that situation, so she goes the extra for her patients families as well as her patients. The nurses did it for her, and now she gets to do the same.

Thanks Dave!! She's been super stoked for this for almost a year, so I'm so happy for her.
And I'm more than happy to be caring and supportive, but this one is all hers, hahahahaha. She's pretty great at what she does. She passionate and it shows.

Thanks!!! I know you're in MA too. Have you been to the hospital in Leominster?
The ER is horrible, but improving (been there more than enough times, hahahaha). There are some really good private practices within the hospital. But the hospital staff itself could use PLENTY of improvement. I had two surgeries there over the past 13-14 months or so, the ER nurses were actually great.

Yeah, I was in the ER there two months ago in bad shape. They did a CT-Scan and they said 'it looked fine' and handed me my discharge papers. I told them 'NO' and demanded to see my CT-Scan. In review of my CT-Scan *I pointed out* and the young doctor begrudgingly admitted that I had a potentially fatal condition that required treatment.

Anyhow! Off-Topic! Congrats on Katies achievement!
