Antsy lil fella
I have a 7 month old bp that I got from a breeder 2 months ago. Things have gone well til yesterday. Was ready to go to my son's home for Xmas pleasantries at quarter to noon.Wanted to give snakes a quick look. The 7 mo. old was up and about. Checked temps:top of hide 97.8, inside hide 87.5. So I moved hide so it wasn't under the Che as much. When I got home,he was snoozing away in the hide. When I got up this am,bout 9, he was out knocking holes in the horizon! I thought higher temps, higher metabolism and fed him a small rat pup. Finally 2 hrs later, he is in his hide. Today's temps: top of hide 91.4 inside hide 85.8. Thought it might be pre shed discomfort but no sign of that. On closer look,he is in his hide, with his head sticking out the side. Almost cute.Insights please!

How are you heating the enclosure?
Are your heat sources regulated by a thermostat?
Temps over 90 are too high for a BP. So you gotta get those temps in check.
What are your cool side and ambient temps?

It's a 20L heated by CHE. Cool side 78 consistently. Humidity was 55 before I misted in case he's pre shed. Weather has moderated to mid 60's the last few days.Maybe that allows the tank temp to rise. He basked on top of the hide prior to entering this afternoon.

Is your CHE on a thermostat? It's very important for your snake's health to have to regulated.

For safety (!) you MUST regulate heat sources with reliable thermostat. Those temperatures are way too hot for BP, can cause heat stroke, nerve damage & death if not abated quickly. PLEASE fix this A.S.A.P.

Yes it is thermostaticly controlled. I don't think todays temps are problematic. Was high yesterday but it was a simple fix. It was the first thing I checked and corrected yesterday. Still doesn't explain his behavior today. Hopefully a full belly will cool his jets.

It's the fact that it was that high which is worrisome. If you have a properly setup thermostat and in working order it shouldn't be able to go up that high. I'm happy that the temps are back down now though!

Where is your thermostat probe?

That's the million dollar question ^ ^ ^! You cannot take your t-stats "word for it", you have to adjust the t-stat so the actual interior of the enclosure- the part the snake is in contact with- stays within a safe range.
