    C-Serpent Combo Rack Issues

I purchased a C-Serpents combo rack about 6-8 months ago to mainly use as a quarantine rack when I get multiple animals of different sizes in. Up until this point I have only used the v35-s tubs and below. I am going to a show next week and had planned on purchasing a few animals 3 months to 2 years off the same guy who I have bought from in the past. Well. I get the tubs set up and realize there is a big problem. The smaller tubs heat 10-12 degrees more than the larger ones.. At first I thought it was just a glitch in the thermometer or the heat gun but after having it set up for 48 hours with just substrate and water in the bowls the bigger tubs run a nice 88-91 on the heat tape side and the v35-s and smaller all run 100+.. Might be a long shot that someone else has dealt with this but I will give it a shot.. I should have realized this before purchasing given basic science..

The only way I can see correcting this is running separate heat tape to each level with two stats or one with two zones.. Or venting the top tubs which would require the rack to be taken apart..

Never had a rack but can you put the smaller ones on the bottom since heat rises and set your temp based off the middle?

I thought of this as well.. Tried and the tubs that are overheating will only go on the top two shelves. Im going to try and move the thermostat probe around a few different locations to try and find a sweet spot. If that doesn't work I will have to cut the tape and use two stats..

Is it possible to cut the tape to a smaller size and not use a second stat? Would save you some money unless you already have the stats.

Are the floors of the bigger tubs bowed upward so they are further away from the heat tape than the floors of the smaller tubs? Bigger air gap = lower temperature. Have you tried running the rack with a book in the larger tubs placed over the heat tape, to simulate the weight of the snake?

Apparently the gap is smaller on these racks. I was instructed to drill multiple holes in the tubs. I really don't like doing that but at this point I guess I will have to. I can't have 4 tubs 10-15 degrees higher than the other tubs.. Ill burn the small snakes up.

It's not ideal but are you getting few enough animals that you can put each one into a large tub?

Im getting ready to buy a ARS 5040.. I had another issue with it the other day where the probe and provided tape slipped off and ran my hot spot up over 100 for a few hours.. Luckily I was down there the day before cleaning and was down there and noticed all the animals in on the cool side which I found very odd. Don't blame them.. It was 102 in spot. I am just really becoming turned off to closed air racks in a room that is temperature controlled.
