Question Reputable breeders who supply specific bloodlines

    Hello,

I recently purchased my 10 week old BI boa. I am planning on purchasing a few other snakes over the next few years in order to establish a small hobby breeding operation. I am currently likely to work with mostly Kahl derived morphs. Are there any reputable breeders with snakes of this bloodline.

Is it cost effective to actively search out boas who's exact genetics and bloodlines are know?

My current goals are to produce Junglows at some point.

    Thanks for the advice

    Hi
You don't say what your boa morph is?
Is it het for kahl albino?(carries the albino gene)
You say you want to produce junglows.

So you will need one boa to have the jungle and hypo gene as well as being het for khal albino. jungle and hypo gene are co dominant meening young only need 1 copy of the gene from either parent to produce a visual but both your snakes would have to carry the kal albino gene as this is a recessive gene to produce a visual

You won't find a problem finding a breeder to produce these in the states, depends on the type of jungle you want to what kind of dollar you'll pay and what other genetics it's carrying
There's some amazing striped jungles like my little hypo jungle which also carries the berrry blood gene abd kahl albino
As in the future ill be making albino jungle blood boas
I've also just brought a mandarin belly jungle and a mandarin belly leopard jungle for future projects which are arriving this weekend
    Hope this helps

Re: Reputable breeders who supply specific bloodlines

If you are asking if it's important to know the bloodlines if you are going to breed, I think it is.

If you want to know who produces good animals to make junglows, I would do some research, but Jeff Ronne, the Boaphile, built all my tanks, and I am getting a boa from him shortly (my third boa - I have zero intention of breeding). He knows where all is animals came from and what their genetics are. He's a good resource regardless, but I am not sure who specializes in the genetics you are looking for. Be careful though, I know many breeders who rush their boas to breed and overfeed. I would stay away from them.

Vin Russo is another breeder I've spoken with and trust.

Vin will respond to email and Jeff will not. If you want to speak with Jeff, call him on the number on his boaphile plastics site.

Other breeders I know are locale specific, and I don't think will be too helpful.

There are lots of wonderful boa breeders both big and small. The main thing to do is check, run their names on various places, ask them for references (and check those references). A good breeder (IMO) will tell you who their stock came from and be willing to show photos of the parents. Genetics are pretty straight forward, lineage is the tricky part, as most of us do have to rely on what we are told. For instance the majority of hypos are locality Bi crosses if that is something important to you. I can trace my jungles back to Kahl stock because I bought them earlier on and trust the people I bought from, both small time hobby breeders.
    Good luck in your search!
