    Re: MacGuyver’s Quarantine Tub

hi i just want to apologize in advance because this is definitely not the point of your thread but do you think your quarantine setup with the tub and the CHE set up like that could work as a permanent setup? i only have one snake and he is in a plastic container similar to that one and i have just been heating up the whole room to get ambient temps up but have been looking for other options and that seems like a really good idea. could you tell me how that has been working for you and if you would recommend it as part of a more permanent setup? thank you and sorry again for hijacking your thread. also congrats on the new addition!

No worries! While this is sort of a "click bait" thread to get folks curious about what the new critter is, it's also intended to be an informative thread regarding tub related husbandry and quarantine practices.

It may or may not work as permanent or longer term setup, but honestly I'd personally look into an actual enclosure over this for the long run. That's just me though. Maybe give this approach a whirl and see how it works out for your animal's needs.

Just be sure that the CHE is very securely fastened above the tub on a reliable, high quality thermostat. I prefer Herpstat because in the (very unlikely) case that it should fail, it is designed to fail in the "off" position. Other's default to full power in a fail scenario and that could turn into a disaster with high wattage heating elements above thin plastic tubs. Some things to consider if you try this out as a more long term solution

You bet! Give this set up a shot and see how it works. Another option is to use two UTH on separate thermostats. One set for an 88-90* hot spot and the other set to 78-80* for the rest of the floor space. Likely won't do much if anything for ambient temps but will ensure that there is both warm and cool regulated belly heat.
