Healthy weight on yearling dwarf boa?
Hi! Wondering what a healthy standard weight for a dwarf (in this case Sonoran) boa would be?
Looking at getting a female that’s a few months over a year old and she is around 200 grams. Is this normal for this type of boa? Seem a bit small however I’ve heard that boas grow slow. I comparison my BP is 8 months and already 700 grams.
Read somewhere that BRB’s normally tend to be around 200 grams for a yearling so maybe it’s totally normal.
would be super grateful for some input!
Thanks

Re: Healthy weight on yearling dwarf boa?
Remember sonoran boas are a dwarf boa and as an adult are less than 5ft and not very girthy too compared to a standard boa imperata

I would go more by body condition from the pictures than the weight. Personally I'd prefer a boa show up a little on the light side as it's much easier to put weight on them than take it off.

I agree with above about just judging by visual body condition rather than weight. For some of the old-school boa breeders, it's not even standard practice to weigh young boas at all, as long as they look healthy and are feeding/behaving normally. My male Hypo Blood boa is a little over a year old, and while I've never weighed him yet, he's only maybe 1/3 the girth of my 1-year-old male ball pythons (who currently clock in at around 500-600g), so the 200g weight that you mentioned doesn't sound unreasonable to me. My BPs were my only frame of reference as well when I got my boas, but I've found that they aren't a very useful benchmark for each other due to their significantly different body shapes and growth rates, haha.
