The lean season begins

I suppose it is that time! I slowed them down last year...but this year, the scrub is soooo hyped up, constantly looking for food. Guess I need to let him grow up, though! I do think it’s healthy for them.

I cut back in fall/winter too for most of my snakes even though none go through a proper brumation. I go from 7-14 day offerings to 14-28 days - usually smaller meals too. My room is only about 10 degrees lower in the winter on average so low 70s ambient.

I have 4 male ball pythons, they eat every 6 to 7 days from late August to early January. From January to May, I offer once or twice a month max. From there we slowly increase back up till August again. I just follow their flow. This time of year they eat every five days if I let them. They have a crazy feed response and strike at anything if I try and cut back this time of year. ✌️

The male ball python tends to go off feed and get hyperactive around February The male retic gets noticably less active and interactive around this time of year. Low pressure weather systems make him crabby. I may try decreasing feedng frequency since he's getting chunky. The female retic is always hungry. She is such a homebody I wouldn't know how her behavior is affected.
