    Rip

About a month or so ago, my husband surprised me with my first Kenyan Sand Boa. It was an albino paradox morph. Tiny little noodle, ate great, grew in size, docile, etc... But she has a bad habit of trying to climb out of her quarantine tank. The tank had a lockable lid.

A terrible accident happened 2 nights ago. Somehow in the middle of the night, she managed to pop the lock open and escaped. My youngest cat Gizmo, who I believe is the culprit, got her. This all happened an hour or so before I discovered her body when I went to check on her before going to bed. She was covered in puncture wounds and pieces of skin was gone. It was like something from a horror movie. She was still alive though.

I treated her with hydrogen peroxide which is what I had at the time. Then the next day I treated her with betadine solution plus Neosporin without pain relief. She barely struggled with me, which was a bad sign. I held on hope that she would pull through. There was bruising at the bottom of her belly.

Yesterday after work, I went to check on her. She was gone. Probably passed away that morning as she was still in the same spot as I saw her.

She was so small that no vet would be able to save her.

I was very upset. It was not Gizmo's fault or my KSB. It was my fault for not making sure the tank was properly secured. I underestimated how strong and persistent a 5 inch long boa can be if they want to get out. This was my first snake received online and first snake to die in my care.

My husband felt very bad for me and urged me to get one of her siblings of the same morph available from the breeder. It feels too soon, even though I barely had this girl for more than 2 months. It still upsets me.

I so sorry for your loss. Good to hear that you hold nothing against Gizmo for being a cat.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Sorry this happened to you and your family. But dont beat yourself up over it, it doesnt help anyone. You will know when your ready for another.
I had a african fat tail gecko for over 10 years as a kid. I made a similar mistake and it cost him his life. I didnt get another pet untill i was 27. I hope you can forgive yourself and dont wait aslong as I did.

So sorry for your loss....so easy to underestimate the will of a snake to escape, or to over-estimate the "security" of various cages & containers. RIP little one...
