Trying to replace a light fixture. Help!
I need help finding a lighting fixture!
I have a custom viv from DIY Cages that came with a fluorescent fixture that I put my own bulb in. Recently the fixture appears to have stopped working, and I need to replace it. The problem is that after literally hours of research across several days I cannot find a similar enough fixture to replace my broken one. So I've come here for help!
The bulbs I have are T8 24" fluorescents. Attached are pictures of the fixture I'm trying to replace along with the hookup I current have. I don't mind replacing the wires at this point if I can find something else that actually plugs into a wall. The only things I have been able to find that are as small and thin as my broken one are cabinet lights that require hard wiring, which I cannot do since a hard wire fixture has a grounding wire and I don't have a grounding wire in my set up to connect to that (as I already tried this and had to return the fixture). The website I got the viv from has no email to contact them and doesn't list what kind of fixture it is that comes with the tank or even what company they got it from. I'm so stuck!

Re: Trying to replace a light fixture. Help!
I usually just buy one at Home Depot. These type of bulbs are for UV light not heat so you don't really need a special one. Is there a slotted area inside the enclosure that you are trying to match up to our something that would make one from the hardware store not work?

Is a little wider but should fit your bulbs. Take the white cover off so the bulb is exposed. Just add a plug and your ready to go.

Maybe I'm confused about your question, but I just happened to buy some 24" replacement lights (LED type, for either T-8 or T-12) in Walmart for my kitchen,
& they sell the 24" fixtures there too. I do not see a third (grounding) wire on any of these fixtures...they have regular 2 prong wall plugs.
I'm no electrician either but it sounds to me as if a light used inside a cage (?) OUGHT to have a grounding wire...for safety? None of my cage lights are inside.
You might try calling either Lowes or Home Depot (or visiting) and ask someone for help in "lighting" department. And look at Walmart.com, they have quite a few.
Doesn't say much for DIY's customer service...

I'm not sure I understand what you are looking for. If it is for lizards/UVB, ZooMed has fixtures for T8 and I think for 24." If UVB is not a factor, then a regular fixture from Wal-Mart should have a size that works.

OK, finally saw your pics. Go to home depo, lowes or harbor freight. You have a cheap light that was marketed for under counters an shops. The new LED ones can be daisy chained with the two prong connectors. The problem is finding a fluorescent fixture. Most things are LED now.
Look around here:

Lowes has an LED model like your old one that is linkable/daisy chain. I have them in my shop they are plug an go. If you look at Amazon for under cabinet lights your head will explode, there are 1,000's.
Good luck with the project!

Re: Trying to replace a light fixture. Help!
If your wanting to keep the same fixture maybe just replacing the ballast in your might fix the problem? Lowes and Home Depot carry replacements.
But as others have said, finding and replacing with an led upgrade is probably your best bet. You might be able to retrofit an led strip onto the old
fixture as a fix too.
