Swallowed Sphagnum Moss!?!
Hey all! My Gargamel decided to not only take his rat butt first tonight, but he wrapped up some moss with it and swallowed it. Should I just let it be, or should I induce regurge? I know that regurgitation can be very uncomfortable for them, so I'm not sure if that's what I should do.

Thanks! I figured as much, but since this is the first time it happen, I just thought I would ask. I figured that if he can digest bone, that a little moss wouldn't hurt him but you never know lol. Thx again Bodie!

Let it be! They cannot digest veggies, but they swallow bits of 'nature' in the wild too, it should pass ok. Inducing regurgitation would be far more harmful.
But next time, use a "plate" (real or cardboard) to prevent this as much as possible.

Thx Bogertophis Well, the problem is that he likes to strike from his plant and then he falls into the moss. I thaw the rat on top of his cage so he comes out to smell it. I took this picture right after I fed him. He is already climbing down at this point, but he was fully up in the plant on the side of the tank. I am afraid that if I put a plate underneath him that falling onto something hard may hurt him. What do you think?

It doesn't have to be your best bone china, you know? Put a cardboard box lid under him...pretty soft landing & nothing he can swallow.

He's so weird... He used to eat while coming out of his hide, but now his developed a pension for eating from a hanging position and he is done it for quite a while now. I will try cardboard next week and see how that goes. On a much better note, he is now shed twice. He is increased his weight by almost 40% since I adopted him.
