    RHP Help

So I recently moved my ball python into an animal plastics TH, with the pro heat 65 W radiant heat panel. However, I’m having a problem I just can’t seem to figure out, and that’s that on top of his hide and a few other places on the hot side of the tank, I regularly get temperatures in excess of 95° Even with thermostat settings as low as 86°. I tried limiting the max power output using my herpstat one, but never saw any decrease in max temps, it just took it longer to warm up and then ran longer. The radiant heat panel is my only heat source, and I’d like to get this set up working, any help is appreciated. Hot side: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yexz9ju1u0...%20PM.jpg?dl=0

    A correction.

A quick correction I didn’t notice when I made my edit, the tank is an animals plastics T8. I’m using a herpstat one with the probe fed through the same hole as the cord for the rhp, though I’ve tried putting it in several different places.

What’s the temp in the room? I have the exact same set up and my temps are 89° and 79°, warm and cool respectively with the room at 75°

The room temps in the house stay around 72°, and this was supposedly considered when I ordered my pro heat panel. The inside of his warm hide stays around 88 if I have the thermostat set to 87 and his cool hide 78, but I get surface temps on top of his hide around 100° when I do that.

Same as yours. Unless your snake acts like snoopy and sleeps on top of its hide then your temps are perfect

Not ideal, but in a 12” tall cage with interior height of 11” minus 1” thick heat panel your down to 10” from floor to panel. Put a hide under that panel and its top will be like 6” from the rhp and definitely be hotter than the floor temp. My warm side just temp gunned at 94° on top of the hide, 87° inside the hide, and 88-99° on the floor around the hide.

I have a thermometer probe in the hide reading 87°, and the hottest temp was on the top of the hide at 98°. It’s never steady that, they cool after it’s run of course and fluctuate when it does, just trying to give my beep the best environment I can, and I’m most certainly a worrier. I really get concerned seeing it break 100°.
