Near tail kink. Effect on breeding?

Te other day I noticed that my hatchling clown female has a kink near her tail. I wanting to know if you all think it would have an effect on her ability to produce and lay eggs. It’s not a bad kink, but it’s still there. I don’t think it’s bad enough to be an issue, but I don’t have any experience with kinking myself.

So essentially. Keep her as a hold back (my only visual clown) or sell her as pet only. Is what it comes to.

Thanks for the advice and input,
    Kyle

That's a pet. There are enough ball pythons being produced now there's no reason to pair ones with physical imperfections.

I would also be very careful about placing her, to ensure she doesn't go for pet price to someone who will breed her regardless, or flip her for the price of a perfect, breedable female. This is the kind of snake you sell locally with a no-breeding/first right-of-refusal contract.

That’s what I was thinking and just needed reaffirmed on my thought. If you don’t mind me asking. What do you think is a reasonable price to ask for a pet only animal? You can pm me if you’d like. I do have a few people in mind that would be good homes for her. They LOVE her heavy back stripe and aren’t breeders.

I'd sell at anywhere from free up to 1/3 market. It depends on how much I trust the person getting the critter (more trustworthy = lower price).

Thanks, i was thinking along those lines. If it’s someone I sort of know, ask enough they will more likely treat her respectfully as a pet and not just a cheap/free snakes

Too bad about the kink, but she is a very attractive & distinctive snake regardless. (and no, I'm not interested, just commenting)

Too bad your only visual has a kink =(

Above and beyond the concern of egg binding, I don't think I would breed that one either just in case the off chance the kinking is genetic in that particular animal. Would hate to build a recessive project around a female that could potentially be passing on a genetic defect that causes kinking. I am sure that this animal would make an excellent pet for someone who has no interest in breeding. Good luck!

It probably would not affect the animal however I have two rules for myself (can't tell you what to do)

I do not breed any animal unless they are perfect.

I do not sell animals unless they are perfect, animals with defects go to a home where I know they will be pet and pet only and never be bred (by selling a valuable animal cheaper because of a defect often means someone see their way in a project for cheap and will breed the animal and I do not want to contribute to breeding animals that are not of the highest quality)

Re: Near tail kink. Effect on breeding?

    I appreciate the advice everyone.

I decided to go ahead and not breed her and found a pet only home for her. I Found the home pretty quick seeing how lots of people seemed to really like her stripe. She’s going to an old high school friend and his wife, once the get a thermostat and clips for the tank. They have some experience with reptiles and seemed to have a good understanding of a ball pythons requirements. At this point I’m just waiting to send her to a new home until they have the tank ready.

I'm glad I'm not local, my kid wants a Clown in a bad way. She would make a young kids perfect first snake. She'll be loved an taken care of without the forethought of breeding.

Ever notice snakes go from 1 to 2 to 12?
